Day 49 AI corrects my sentences
Yesterday I tried something new with ChatGPT that was incredibly easy but so helpful.
I asked it to correct my handwritten sentences.
It's crazy how much an AI chatbot can help with language learning. I’ve used ChatGPT and other chatbots in several different ways while studying languages, but this was the first time I asked it to correct my handwritten sentences.
Today happened to be one of those days when I had no time at all for language study. Some days are like that. But yesterday I had six wonderful hours to focus on Greek, and I want to share one exercise that turned out to be especially helpful.
I have been learning a lot of vocabulary on Duolingo, but I'm still struggling with putting sentences together.
Greek grammar adds another layer of challenge. Greek uses cases, which means the endings of words change depending on how they are used in the sentence — whether the word is the subject, the object, or comes after a preposition. There are also three grammatical genders, each with its own endings. So speaking in sentences seems a bit daunting until I get these endings sorted out.
So yesterday I decided to do something very simple.
I wrote a few sentences about my children.
They were basic sentences like:
- “I have four children.”
- “I have two boys and two girls.”
- “My first daughter lives in America.”
I also wrote sentences about their ages, where they live, and how many children they have. In total, I wrote about twelve short sentences.
Then I did something that would have been impossible just a few years ago.
I took a photo of my handwritten sentences, uploaded it into the ChatGPT phone app, and asked it to correct them.
The feedback was excellent.
ChatGPT corrected my mistakes and explained the grammar behind the corrections. A couple of things were still confusing to me and I asked ChatGPT for more clarification. It felt a bit like having a personal language tutor sitting next to me while I worked through my sentences.
This turned out to be a really helpful exercise, and I will definitely do it again. Next time I’ll probably write similar sentences but change them a bit because I don't want this to turn into a memorization activity.
Try This Yourself
Write 10–12 simple sentences about your life in the language you are learning.
They could be about:
- your family
- where you live
- your work
- what you did yesterday
Then take a photo of your sentences and upload it to an AI chatbot. Ask it to correct your sentences and explain your mistakes.
It’s a simple exercise, but it’s a powerful way to turn vocabulary into real sentences.
